lots are too small is one of the topic that far from people attention. Actually
if we come through this issue, we can find that this topic is really have to
solve. That way, if left will appear the other problem that people bother
comfort and security.
Our
group try to find the way out of this issue, which is parking lots, are too
small. Hopefully, this can help and can be applied in the future.
Factor that influene why parking lots too small
Land is limited

As we all know that Singapore is a
small country. From this map we can see Singapore compared with the country
beside, Singapore have the smallest land.
Singapore is a advanced country
and build a lot of high building for example apartment, office, mall or another
area like garden or big sport area like golf and other area like factory and
airport. It makes the number of parking area less and less and that influence
to the size of parking lots.
Lamborghini and Limousine car
For normal car, is an enough space
to park in normal size but for some design of the car it is to small.

car (Lamborghini). This car is too wide so it’s look like that this parking lot
is too narrow
The right side is Limousine car.
The design is very long one so the parking lot looks like the length of the
parking lot is to short.

Singapore is a advanced country.
The income per capita increases every year, those influences to the number of
the car that also increasing every year. It makes a lot of car. Some parking
area squeeze the car to make a lot of car can park in that place. So it decreases
the size of the car.

cannot park the car properly make the size of other car parking slot decrease
as we can see from the picture above. That makes others car park over the
parking slot line to protect their car from crash with other car and continue.
For example, one row can park 10 cars but because of one car not park properly,
only 8 or 9 cars can park in that row.
Empathy
The term “empathy” is used to describe a wide range of
experiences. Emotion researchers generally define empathy as the ability to
sense other people’s emotions, coupled with the ability to imagine what someone
else might be thinking or feeling.
For some people, have a lot of car is having its own satisfaction.
Maybe it is to fulfill their hobby or pride. But they do not know that have a
lot of car like that make this country full of car which is influence to other
problems.
Inconsiderate driver, they may park their car or drive the
car by their own rule, but something that they should know is, they not live in
this country alone. What they did, like not drive and park the car properly, can
interfere with the safety and comfort of society.
For car factory, they just issued the car that will be
conduct on the market without notice the design of the car. Is it to long or to
wide? It influences other problem like the parking lots size.
The consumer same like the car factory, they just buy the
car if they like the design without notice other the problem that will come.
Research Methodology

These
are the list of questions that we will use for our interview. This interview
will mainly involve people who drive in a daily basis. The locations we picked
up are parking areas where drivers can normally be seen such as hawker centre’s
car park especially during lunch time.
We have interviewed Ms Khar Khar, she is the owner of one of
our group member’s apartment.

Site Study
We went around Singapore to see what happen with parking
slot here and see what the problem that happen.
We went to Liang Seah street in Bugis area. We found that in
Bugis area, there is a automatic parking car, which is very rarely found in the
public area.

As we can see from this picture, there is sport car park on
that parking slot. Before we took this photo, there is one another sport car
park here and it going out of these parking slots.
I am often go to this area to having dessert with my friends
and find out that most of car that park in this area is like sport car and high
class car only.
We conclude that most cars that park on automatic mostly a high-class
car maybe it is because of the price is more expensive from normal parking car.

The point is the driver cannot park the car properly so it
is taken other parking lots. Like what I found in website. This website talks
about the driver that cannot park the car properly. Actually, the parking lots
are wide enough to park a normal size car but the problem is the driver again,
because of the drivers think if they not park the car properly they, it will
not affected to them.
This is what happened in Japan.
Automated Parking lots
I
know from my Singaporean friends that getting a driving lesson from Singapore
Government is not easy. For me personally, they have to test more on parking
technique because this simple problem can become a big problem. The driver have
to practice more and have a good attitude, so when they parked wrongly, they will
try again to park the car properly.
But
in Japan the drivers have to park the car properly because they park the car on
the machine then the machine will bring the car to the parking lot above. If it
not parked properly, something will happen to their car. And because of Japan
using stack parking lots or usually called robotic parking, they can use small
area to park car more. And no more cars take others parking lots.

Nowadays, there are a lot of valet parking services in place
such as, mall or restaurants. This solution is a kind of luxurious and high
class type. So, the driver does not need to park the car by themselves, they do
not even need to use the machine by themselves. There will be person who helps
to park your car using the machine. In automated car park, we just need to park
our car in a slot then the machine will park the car in the upper level. Since
this solution needs a high technology, it will cost more expensive compare to
the others.

Ladies, family, and
wheel-chaired parking lot + different size of parking lot
We combine these two solutions because they suit each other.
Some parking lots have this kind of specific slot. Usually they place ladies parking
lot near the entrance mall for safety reason, family parking lot is made
especially for driver who go with family, and wheel-chaired parking lot is made
for car with wheel-chaired passenger or wheel-chaired driver.
In some countries such as, London, they have different size
of parking lots. I think we can combine these two solutions by differentiate
the size of parking lots in mall. For example, for wheel-chaired driver or
passenger, we can make bigger slot of parking lot so if they open their door and
sit in the wheel-chaired it will not crash another car because there are more
space. For ladies parking slot, we can put it near the entrance mall for safety
reason, so the ladies do not need to walk too far. Moreover, we can make the
slot slightly bigger so the ladies can park their car easier. And for the
family parking lot is specially made for people who travel with their family
especially family who have small children.
Different size of parking lots for different types of drivers
Finalization
In the end, we decided to combine the idea of automated car
parking system with a convenient valet service in tow. It makes car parking
simpler and less time-consuming. First, a valet employee would take over your
car for you. Next, he would drive your car to the automated car parking system.
He would only need to put your car in an empty slot, which would look and place
itself in an available space. When you need your car back, you simply notify
the valet employee and he would press a button which connects with the slot
your car is placed in. Afterwards, he would bring it back to you. Hence, all
you have to do to get your car safely parked is to hand it to the valet
employee who would organize the rest of parking process for you.
